    • What does S.E.E.R rating mean and how does this affect me?
SEERĀ stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and should be an important deciding factor in which air conditioning unit you choose. In Texas the minimum SEER contractors are allow to sell is 14 SEER. With some manufacturers a SEER rating can be as high as 25 SEER. An air conditioning’s SEER rating is compared to an auto’s mile per gallon, the higher the better.

    • Are there filters that are better than others?
Yes filter come in many sizes and thickness. we recommend most pleated filters due to pleated filters have a great merv rating. A MERV rating is a numerical value ranging from 1 being the lowest efficiency to 20 being the highest efficiency.
    • How often should I replace my filter?
Most filters that are 1″ should be changed every 30-45 days. However 4″ filters can be changed every 4-6 months. With the substantial usage our ac systems run in texas, its very important to keep the filters clean to optimize system efficiency.

    • How do I know what size the unit our house needs?
It is very important to run heat load calculations on home to determine the correct size/tonnage needed to properly cool the home. A system too small will not remove the necessary heat to cool properly and an over sized system will short cycle and not run long enough to dehumidify the home. Load calculations are very critical for proper sizing the correct system for comfort.
    • Is R-22 Freon going away?
Yes. The US has agreed to 100% phase out on import or production by January 1, 2020 because its damaging effects on the ozone layer. For older units that were installed in 1980’s and 1990’s, your A/C unit probably still uses R-22. Currently we are required to use R410A refrigerant.
